Mela…for those who do not live in Malta and do not know Maltese, mela is probably the most overworked word in our language. Its meaning varies according to how and when it is used. Like a chameleon, it adapts according to the surroundings it finds itself in.
To a certain extent, this is what we all do in life. We adapt to the changes around us. I always wanted to write but never found the time. When circumstances changed and time was no longer an issue, I finally got around to putting pen to paper. Fingers to the keyboard would be more precise, but you get the gist. That was in November 2021. Since then, I have not stopped writing.
I am, by nature, a very private person, but if I expect people to read my work, I owe them the courtesy of knowing a bit about me. I believe that every piece of writing, to some extent or another, is autobiographical. Knowing where the author comes from should help the reader understand his work better.
I have spent most of my professional life working as a civil servant. It was not a career that I dreamed of. I wanted to be a rock star. I had the hair; I had the guitar; I had the band. But sadly, I never had enough talent to pursue that career in a meaningful manner.
I am married to Louise Tedesco, the celebrity of the family. We have two boys, who make us proud every day, and two English bulldogs who will feature in this blog every now and then.
Born in 1966, I grew up listening to bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Genesis and Electric Light Orchestra. Music and books are an essential part of my life. I am at my happiest with a book in hand and headphones in my ears. My favourite authors are Stephen King and Ryszard Kapuściński. There couldn’t be two more diverse writers. Which says more about me than them.
So, that is who I am. You will find other bits of me in my writing. But I plan to disguise them well.
